What's Included in an AC Tune-Up? The 21-Point Checklist
An AC tune-up is the single best investment you can make in your cooling system. Here is the full checklist our technicians work through on every spring visit.
Outdoor unit (condenser)
- Clean the condenser coil
- Inspect the fan motor and blades
- Test the run capacitor
- Test the contactor
- Check refrigerant pressures, superheat and subcooling
- Inspect the compressor amp draw
- Tighten electrical connections
- Level the unit and clear debris
Indoor unit (air handler / furnace)
- Inspect the evaporator coil
- Flush the condensate drain and treat for algae
- Inspect the drain pan and float switch
- Check the blower motor and wheel
- Measure static pressure
- Replace or check the air filter
- Inspect visible ductwork for leaks
Controls and performance
- Calibrate the thermostat
- Check the temperature split across the coil
- Inspect the disconnect and breaker
- Test the safety controls
- Inspect refrigerant line insulation
- Provide a written report with recommendations
